Miia Suokonautio

Executive Director, YWCA Halifax

Miia has served as the Executive Director of YWCA Halifax, Halifax’s largest multiservice women’s organization, since early 2014. In her role at the YWCA, Miia has focused her work on four key strategic areas: delivering quality, accessible developmental early learning and child care; advancing women’s economic and housing security; promoting the leadership, health and wellness of women and girls; and working to end violence against women.

Presently Miia is the co-chair of the Homelessness Working Group of the Housing and Homelessness Partnership, co-chair of the Nova Scotia Sexual Assault Services Network, member of the Province of Nova Scotia’s Sexual Violence Strategy’s Public Awareness Committee, co-founder and member of the women’s homelessness working group, member of the gender equity committee of the Nova Scotia Barrister’s Society and member of the Nova Scotia Non-profit Childcare Directors’ Association.

Miia has a Masters degree in Social Work with a specialization in Diversity and Social Justice from the University of Toronto.
