Chair, FoodSecure Canada
Melana Roberts is a federal and municipal food policy strategist and Chair of FoodSecure Canada, a pan-Canadian alliance working to build more equitable, just and sustainable food systems through policy advocacy and capacity building. Working from coast to coast, Melana’s work bridges social justice, politics and policy using food-based solutions to solve local challenges. She is currently Project Manager of Power Lab, a leadership learning space that interrogates power to build tools and capacity to create local, fair economies – where historically excluded communities are positioned to shape outcomes that impact their lives. Melana serves on the Board of Directors of Carrot Cache, a philanthropic foundation supporting regional food systems, and as a member of the Toronto Food Policy Council. She has previously worked at Toronto City Hall, at Canada’s largest social housing agency, and at the Art Gallery of Ontario. In 2020, CBC Metro Morning recognized Melana as a Next-10 Leader, shaping the next decade of food in Canada. Melana also served as Canada’s United Nations Delegate for the Commission on Population and Development, addressing Global emergency food responses during COVID-19, and was most recently named an Action Canada Fellow, exploring the future of work in Canada.
